Deben Players was formed in 1964. The Society's first production was Billy Liar performed at the Woodbridge Cinema that same year. The following is an extract from the programme of Billy Liar:

Deben Players came to life from the enthusiasm of a small group of amateur players, most of whom are members of local Drama Groups who wished to continue their interest through the summer months when some Societies lapse into a ‘resting’ period. We were extremely fortunate in obtaining the very extensive experience of Elsie Kersey Wellard of the Bealings Drama Group as our Producer. The Players are members of Bealings Drama Group, Connard and Seckford Players and old members of the Woodbridge Youth Club Drama Group. The Stage Management has been in the capable hands of Ray Jacobs of the Connard and Seckfords. This is a new venture, in as much as it is the first Three Act Play to be presented on the stage at the Woodbridge Cinema. Our thanks are due to the Theatre Management and Staff and to the Youth Club Management Committee for allowing us to use the stage.

For the second play, the Society moved to Woodbridge School where they presented Cat on the Fiddle, followed by Roots. The initial annual format depended on the school holidays; the pantomime was presented at Christmas, one play during the Easter holidays and another play in early September before the start of the autumn term.

Between 1964 and 1989, Deben Players performed their productions at both Woodbridge School Hall and The Woodbridge Cinema (later renamed as the Riverside Theatre in 1985). From 1990, they made Riverside Theatre their home for productions and moved back to Woodbridge School in 2006 when it opened the Seckford Theatre.

From the start, Deben Players have entered many Drama Festivals including The Suffolk, The Ipswich, The Brantham and Llundidnod Wells. Deben Players are members of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (). Each year NODA present awards; here are some of Deben Players' most recent achievements:
